Overview

Gracefeel (グレイスフィール Gureisufīru?) is the goddess of the flame and eternal flux. She is the guardian deity of William. She keeps watch over him and gives guidance through his journeys .

She can manifest a herald that takes the form of warm flames. She does not have enough faith nor power to manifest an echo, her appearance as one is unknown.

Divine[]

Her true appearance is a anthropoid goddess with long black hair and purple eyes. She has a gentle face and wears a hooded robe that covers her notable features. She holds a lantern in her right hand often held by a long handle.

Personality[]

She is kind and gentle though she often wears an emotionless expression and speaks in a solemn voice. She holds deep affection towards people and loves them dearly. As the guardian deity of William, her most prominent, she cares for him deeply though her deeper feelings remain unknown but is hinted to have possible romantic feelings. She has expressed jealousy towards a certain god whenever they act too friendly with William.

Background[]

Gracefeel is a goddess associated with the flame and eternal flux. She was a renowned deity of the good gods with many followers in the Union Age but after the Great Collapse, her followers dispersed and her image became obscure over time. She became a mysterious second-string deity, even her gender was forgotten by the people and her only notable features were her hooded robe, lantern and her parents, the deities Volt and Mater.

Her elder sister, previously helped guide the souls but she slowly grew tired as she watched the heroes she adored lose their light and decided to leave her younger sister and use her own power to eternalise her image of heroes.

Summary[]

The Boy in the City of the Dead[]

She came to the aid of William and became his guardian deity on the winter solstice. She was able to grant her blessings to William and help his fight against the echo of Stagnate, the god of undeath.

The Archer of Beast Woods[]

She gave a warning, a revelation of the future to William. It was a vision of a tragedy and disaster about to befall a settlement and due to her warning, William was able to successfully prevent the disaster without any causalities or deaths.

She came to check up on William, worried for his well-being after his first major loss in battle. She had her hood lowered and wore a face of sadness, she didn't utter a word and continued to watch over him until Meneldor was able to bring him to his senses.

The Lord of the Rust Mountains[]

She purposely avoided answering any prayers or given any revelation towards William when he was undecided to confront the foul dragon. She was aware victory was very unlikely and she was afraid he would die. But after she saw William's determination she commanded him to slay the dragon and uphold his oath to her.

Her herald protected William against a devastating attack from the foul dragon, Valacirca. She granted William and his party blessings alongside the herald of Stagnate against their fight against the dragon.

After the death of the dragon, she confronted her elder sister, Stagnate and asked if she would put away her power of undeath and help her guide the souls of the dead but was cut off and rejected. After the parting of the herald of Stagnate and her confession, she granted the request of the dragon-slayers to purify the land of the Rust Mountains and the regions below that were also affected, she burnt away the miasma and unholy poison that had shrouded the lands with her flames.

The Torch Port Ensembles[]

She healed the wounds that been inflicted onto William by the Invincible Giant, in return she would experience that which was inflicted onto him but it would relieve him of the pain and damage. After she healed his wounds, she revealed to him, her love towards people and confessed that she wanted to be loved as well. This lead to William's rash confessions of feelings of love towards Gracefeel, in response she called him a fool and explained to him that she has no body of flesh nor the power to form an echo, however, it did not deter him and his answer remained the same, she continued to call him a fool as she softly smiled.

Manifestation

  • Herald - The ability to manifest a flame with the capabilities to form transparent protective barrier, grant blessings and communicate with others.
  • Echo - The ability to manifest a body, she currently does not have enough faith nor power to manifest an Echo of her own.

Purification

  • Sacred Fire - The ability to manifest fire with a holy aura that burns away miasma and unholy poison.

Trivia[]

  • Her title Goddess of the Flame (灯火 Tomoshibi?) is the official translation. It is more commonly translated as light or torch which unfortunately causes inconsistent terminology in various other translations not licensed by it's official translators.
    • This extends further with Crunchyroll's translation causing further inconsistent terminology though not uncommon for the company.
  • Her original character design in volume 1 was reworked by the novel illustrator in volume 3.
    • In the manga version, her design is based on the first volume.
    • In the anime version, her design is based on the third volume.
  • She has been featured with a variety of different hair and eye colours from the light novel illustrator.
    • On the first contents page of volume 3, black hair and purple eyes.
    • On the second cover of volume 3, white hair and purple eyes.
    • On the contents page of Volume 4, brown hair.
    • On the animation celebration illustration, red hair and blue eyes.
    • On the limited illustration on the Overlap store, white hair and blue eyes.
    • On the first cover of the Blu-ray, white hair and orange eyes.
